Our mission is to protect and restore the environment of Iraq and the rich human heritage that it has fostered. We strive to achieve this mission through fulfillment of the following goals: 1) Improve the capacity of Iraq’s institutions to protect its environment; 2) Develop a scientific database of environmental conditions and trends within Iraq; 3) Encourage environmental awareness and stewardship of Iraq’s environment; and 4) Promote the sustainable use of Iraq’s environment and resources.
Fishes, snails, plants, subterranean salamanders and more, the Mediterranean Basin Hotspot is globally important for its freshwater biodiversity. This vital habitat is of course vital for human life too, and as the demand for water increases, so can pressures on biodiversity.
Although agricultural lands comprise just over 12% of Jordan’s territory, it contributes up to 20% of the national income. Unfortunately, Jordan’s agriculture is threatened by urban expansion, land fragmentation and climate change.
