Forest & Bird (BirdLife in New Zealand) has uncovered Government plans to allow mining in 7000 hectares of high-value conservation land in the West Coast's Paparoa National Park, Great Barrier Island and the Coromandel Peninsula.

Endangered Long-whiskered Owlet has been filmed and photographed at a new site in Neotropical Primate Conservation’s main research area, La Esperanza, Peru. First found in 1976, the species had not been seen since 2007.
