Project Officer – São Tomé and Príncipe Biodiversity and Ecosystems Project

 
BirdLife International is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and experienced, self-entrepreneur and motivated individual for the position of Project Officer in Sao Tomé in the framework of the ECOFAC6 project – Biodiversity & Ecosystems.
 
Main responsibilities:
• Assist Project Manager in supervision and direction for efficient and effective delivery of the three main products of the EU/ECOFAC6 project and other initiatives led by BirdLife on the island of São Tomé, in close collaboration with the Project Officer on the Island of Príncipe
• Act as a CEPF Guinean Forest of West Africa (GFWA) RIT – ECOFAC focal person for the Islands of Sao Tome and Principe and support the RIT on monitoring and reporting back to CEPF on programmatic performance of local projects while actively participating in the implementation and monitoring of the GFWA portfolio and other RIT activities
• Support to strategic relations to coordinate integration of BirdLife’s projects in the conservation of forest landscapes of São Tomé and Príncipe and explore synergies with other conservation actions in São Tomé and Príncipe, to foster collaborations that will enhance project delivery and visibility, with a focus to São Tomé Island
• Actively participate in the management of BirdLife's office and assets and promote the coherent and participative management of BirdLife's activities on the island of São Tomé, in close collaboration with the Project Officer on the Island of Príncipe
 
Required skills, experience and qualifications:  
• Advanced experience in Conservation Project and knowledge of biodiversity conservation, natural resource management, ecology, ecosystem services and their practical application
• BSc / Eng degree or higher will be an advantage, esp. in agronomy, conservation, development related fields. Ecotourism and advocacy experience/skills will be considered an advantage
• A proven track of record of relevant work experience in project management/support, including administration, organisation, reporting, and communication
• Oral and written fluency in Portuguese. Professional competencies in English an advantage;
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Analytical skills
 
Location: 
The position will be based in Sao Tomé, Sao Tomé and Principe, with possible trips to the Island of Príncipe.

Salary & benefits: 
Commensurate with experience and qualifications and in accordance with BirdLife International, Africa Division terms and conditions.
• Gross monthly salary: EUR 700 - 900 + 12% pension benefit 
• Length/duration of this position: 2 year (renewable)
• Working hours: Full time 40 hours per week
• Date when the job expected to start: 15 June 2020
