BirdLife International is the world’s largest nature conservation partnership. Through our unique local-to-global approach, we deliver high impact and long-term conservation for the benefit of nature and people.
BirdLife International Partners work in forests around the world, incorporating conservation of core areas with threat mitigation and positive incentive strategies at landscape, national and global scales. This work includes “traditional” conservation of, advocating for, managing and supporting forest protected areas as well as supporting community management of forest resources. It also includes engaging in the productive economy to improve practices, inputting to policy processes to improve forest governance and mitigate climate change, and contributing to science and innovation of forest conservation. BirdLife International’s Forests Programme links and advances these initiatives from across the BirdLife Partnership.
As Asia Forests Programme Coordinator, you will support BirdLife Partners and Secretariat to link diverse forest conservation initiatives to global commitments, funding sources and private sector interests that can support delivery of our objectives.
You will provide technical support to BirdLife and Partners to define, develop, and articulate long-term strategies, creating opportunities for aggregation, scale-up, collaboration and learning. You will seek out new ways of responding to the needs and interests of the BirdLife Partners through securing new financial support and technical collaborations, creating novel funding arrangements, providing guidance on vision and strategy, and framing priority initiatives in compelling ways for external and internal audiences.
You will also support BirdLife and Partners to create clear, compelling and feasible concepts, and match these with funding opportunities. Close collaboration with colleagues in the Asia regional office, across the Secretariat and with members of the global Forests Programme team is a must.
Ideally you will have an undergraduate degree in a relevant subject as well as knowledge of forest and/or landscape conservation issues, and related funding mechanisms and trends. However, we will also consider candidates with backgrounds in project design and marketing from outside the conservation sector who have a strong interest in pursuing a career in conservation and have significant transferable experience.
You should have experience of engaging with the private sector and of having developed project concepts and/or developed programmes through strategic planning and fundraising. You should also have led complex projects involving multiple stakeholders across various sectors, geographies and cultural backgrounds. You must be able to collaborate with others with cultural sensitivity, thrive under pressure, meet deadlines and be able to prioritise concurrent projects or areas of work.
Excellent spoken and written English is essential. If you are applying for the role in Singapore, there is a preference for candidates who are already legally resident in Singapore.
