Mission of the organisation

To work towards the study and the conservation of wild birds and their habitats by promoting sustainable development for the benefit of the future generations.

Key Activities

  • Conservation of threatened species, e.g. Azores bullfinch/priolo, Deserta’s petrel
  • Monitoring and promotion of the Portuguese IBA network, including marine sites
  • Conservation of steppe birds and promoting a sustainable agriculture
  • Monitoring of Portuguese bird populations (atlas, common bird census, Xmas and New Year census, coastal birds in winter)
  • Educational projects and campaigns
  • Publications on ornithology (Airo and Anuário Ornitológico)
  • Organisation of congresses and workshops
  • Promoting the Birdwatching in Portugal
