BirdLife Malta’s mission is the protection of wild birds and their habitats.

Key Activities

  • Campaigning to end illegal hunting and trapping as well as spring hunting on the Maltese Islands
  • Managing three nature reserves and an afforestation project to provide better habitat for birds and wildlife
  • Researching and collecting data (including through bird ringing) on Malta’s birds to enable better conservation
  • Identifying Important Bird Areas so they can be designated as Special Protection Areas under the EU Birds Directive
  • Publishing research and disseminating information about the birds of Malta, including the Breeding Bird Atlases for the Maltese Islands
