our work with businesses
We work with businesses to bring about transformative change
At BirdLife, we believe that transforming our relationship with nature requires working together with businesses ready to embrace meaningful change. By partnering with progressive companies and sectors that address key environmental issues, value science, and commit to transparent, measurable goals, we can drive solutions that benefit both nature and society.
Through constructive and critical engagement, we challenge businesses to pursue transformative and meaningful change, demonstrating that sustainable practices and nature conservation are essential. Our partnerships serve as a model for how industries can align with environmental goals, paving the way for a healthier planet and a thriving business community.
Sectors
Renewable energy
BirdLife partners with the renewable energy sector to shape policies that ensure a sustainable transition to clean energy in Europe. We collaborate with leading companies such as IBERDROLA and industry groups like Solar Power Europe to promote solutions that balance the need for renewable energy with the protection of biodiversity.
Extractive sector
The mineral extractive sector has a significant impact on biodiversity and habitats. However, it also holds the potential to contribute positively to nature conservation if managed responsibly. Restored quarries, for example, can provide valuable habitats for threatened species and create spaces for community recreation.
Heidelberg cement
Heidelberg Materials and BirdLife have been working together since 2011 to integrate biodiversity protection into quarry operations.
Sibelco
In 2022, Sibelco and BirdLife signed a partnership to support Sibelco’s new sustainability strategy. This partnership focuses on incorporating science-based targets, measurable commitments, and accountability into the company’s operations, ensuring that biodiversity remains a priority.
Advocating across industries
BirdLife collaborates with key associations, including CEMBUREAU, UEPG, Aggregates Europe, and Eurogypsum, to promote best practices across the extractive sector. Together, we advocate for the full implementation of the EU Birds and Habitats Directives, encouraging the restoration of nature and the adoption of biodiversity-friendly practices across industries.
