Open letter to the German Presidency of the EU

Germany has just taken over the Presidency of the EU. A very challenging time to begin a presidency, as the EU and the world face an unpreceded crisis in COVID19. The pandemic, and its far-reaching consequences, will undoubtedly determine much of the presidency's six months.

The COVID19 pandemic has violently exposed the vulnerabilities of our societies and inadequacy of our economies. Unfortunately, two other equally existential crises threaten us: climate change and biodiversity destruction. We must urgently invest in sustainable and resilient structures. Our future depends on it.

We, BirdLife Europe, and our German partner NABU are writing an open letter to the German Presidency of the Council of the EU, to share our thoughts, concerns and advice on how to lead this much-needed transition to a nature-friendly future. From the EU biodiversity strategy, to CAP reform and the EU budget; the potential for change is here. We just need to seize it.
