Treasurer Opportunity

As we move into our 100th year, BirdLife is now looking for a new Treasurer to join the Council of Trustees. The Board meets half yearly, currently via zoom. The Treasurer will ideally be a chartered accountant, with the financial skills and acumen to support BirdLife on the next part of its journey, as we seek to tackle effectively the underlying causes of the destruction of our planet, change our behaviour and our choices to ensure our children’s and grandchildren’s future.

BirdLife International is a truly global partnership of over 115 national Partners of environmental NGOs. These Partners are national conservation organisations, all of whom share a common vision – to mobilise lasting, sustainable protection for the world’s birds, their habitats, and global biodiversity in general.

The Treasurer will ideally be a chartered accountant, with the financial skills and acumen to support BirdLife on the next part of its journey, as we seek to tackle effectively the underlying causes of the destruction of our planet, change our behaviour and our choices to ensure our children’s and grandchildren’s future.

The Treasurer plays two roles at the Council of Trustees, the Fiduciary role as Treasurer, providing guidance and support on Financial Management, Reporting, Risk and Governance, as well as providing strategic guidance and support to the CEO and Chair of Trustees.

Successful applicants should be able to demonstrate:

  • An excellent knowledge of the charity sector with an understanding of the challenges and opportunities BirdLife face as an International NGO.
  • Significant experience of financial leadership at either an executive or non-executive level, particularly with regard to financial development, improvement and growth.
  • Previous non-executive experience, with the financial skills and acumen necessary to ensure excellent governance of a charity s finances combined with the ability to support BirdLife’s vision and growth path.
  • A strong commitment to organisational change.
  • Excellent communication and relationship skills, political awareness, strategic leadership and a personal affinity towards the values and a passion for the work of BirdLife.
