BirdLife International is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and experienced individual for the position of Preventing Extinctions Programme Coordinator, Africa. The main purpose of the Preventing Extinctions Programme Coordinator will be to offer strategic leadership and coordinate the efforts of the BirdLife Secretariat and Partnership in Africa in development and implementation of strategies, projects and activities for conservation of bird species in Africa. Since vulture conservation in Africa is a high priority for BirdLife International, the Preventing Extinctions Programme Coordinator will also lead and be the focal point for vulture conservation in Africa.
The ideal candidate will have
- Master’s degree in conservation / natural resource management/ related field or equivalent experience
- Knowledge of biodiversity conservation, ornithological knowledge and interest in raptors will be an advantage
- Deep understanding of conservation issues in Africa; Good knowledge and interest in ornithology, ecology and applied biology; appreciation of the need for targeted species conservation, and the requirements to achieve it.
- A proven track record of relevant work experience in biodiversity conservation, including planning, proposal writing, project development and management and networking
