Miriam Westervelt: "Here are some photos of interviewing women about forest use and making a house out of African pencil cedar (Juniperus procera), oltarakuai in Maa, a precious resource in Loita Forest that is getting harder for people to find due to intense pressure from settlement of people arriving from outside my study area in anticipation of potential subdivision of the communal land,  The plant in the photos is oleparmunyo (Toddalia asiatica), which women boil to treat kids' colds and coughs.  The berry is refreshing and tastes a bit like oranges."
