VISA REQUIREMENTS TO VISIT ARGENTINA

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The information provided here is a guide to delegates based on data obtained in September 2007 from the Argentinean Department of Foreign Affairs in Buenos Aires.   It is however subject to change and all delegates should make their own enquiries locally at the time of applying for a visa.   Neither BirdLife International, nor Aves Argentinas nor Ana Juan Congresos can be held accountable for the information provided below.  Please double check with the Argentine Consulate closest to you.

Do I need a visa to enter Argentina?
As a delegate attending the BirdLife International World Conference you may or may not require a visa depending on your nationality.   All delegates attending the conference are considered by the Argentine authorities to be tourists and therefore if you require a visa to enter Argentina, you will need to apply for a tourist visa, not a business visa.

Nationalities that DO need a tourist visa (subject to change) are:

Azerbaijan, Bahamas, Bahrain, Belarus, Belize, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cambodia, Cameroon, China, Cuba, Egypt, Ethiopia, Fiji, Georgia, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kuwait, Lebanon, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Malaysia, Morocco, Myanmar, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palestine, Philippines, Russia, Rwanda, Samoa (Western), Saudi Arabia, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Sri Lanka, Suriname, Tanzania, Thailand, Tunisia, Uganda, Vietnam, Yemen, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Nationalities who DO NOT need a tourist visa for Argentina (subject to change) are:

Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Ecuador, El Salvador, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Palau, Panama, Paraguay, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom, Uruguay, USA and Venezuela.

If I require a visa, how do I apply?
You need to apply from the Argentine Consulate nearest to where you live.  There is a comprehensive list available on www.cancilleria.gov.ar  which provides contact details of all Argentinean missions abroad.   It is only available in Spanish.  Click on the flag of the country in which you are based, and contact details of the nearest mission will appear.  Please note some of the bigger missions have a variety of departments, in which case you need the contact details for Seccion Consular (Consular Section) who will be responsible for issuing visas.  In some cases email addresses are provided which will make communication easier.  Please confirm with consular staff what documentation is required to apply for a visa from that mission.

When do I apply?
At least 2 months in advance of your departure for Buenos Aires.  Please check with the Argentine Consulate closest to where you live.

Where do I apply?
Please be aware it is your responsibility to apply for your visa from the Argentine Consulate closest to where you live.  In some cases, delegates may be expected to travel to the mission to apply in person which could be expensive and time consuming.  You may be able to apply using a  DHL courier (or similar) to the nearest Argentinean Consulate which may be in another city or a neighbouring country but you will need to confirm this with the consulate beforehand.  Please do not assume this will automatically be the case.    Please ensure your application is  submitted  timeously, taking care to submit all the correct documentation asked of you.

What do I need to submit with my application?
This may vary from country to country and you will need to clarify this yourself directly with the Argentine Consulate in your region.

How do I download a visa application form ?
It is important that you use the correct application form applicable to the region from where you are applying.  For example if you live in Ghana, you need to obtain a form from the Argentine Consulate in Abuja, Nigeria which is the closest mission.  If you live just for example in Ghana, please do not download the visa form from the Argentine Consulate London’s website, because the form will not apply to people resident outside of the UK.

How do I obtain a letter of invitation to include with my visa application? On confirmation of your registration, a Letter of Invitation will be sent to each delegate who requires one by the BirdLife Secretariat in Cambridge.

Do I need a transit visa to travel through another country en route to Argentina?
Many delegates will not be able to fly directly to Buenos Aires from their home country and may have to change aircraft en route in another country.  Depending on the  nationality of your passport, you may need a visa to travel though this country, even though you may only be in transit at the airport.  It is the responsibility of each delegate to clarify whether they will need a transit visa or not.   We suggest you ask your travel agency for guidance.
