Dinara

Dinara is an adult female Sociable Lapwing tagged in May 2010 at Birlik in central Kazakhstan. Her name in Kazakh means ‘Dear’, or ‘Gold’.

Dinara is the heaviest Sociable Lapwing the study team has ever caught weighing 238 grams.

When we caught and tagged Dinara she was brooding three chicks. We colour-ringed these youngsters too so they might also contribute to knowledge that can help their conservation. At the time of writing (early August 2010) mother Dinara and her now fully grown family are doing well.

In order to help our scientists spot her in a large flock during migration she has been colour ringed. Her colour ring combination is blue over yellow on her left leg and red over yellow on her right leg.

Dinara’s satellite tag number is 055023.

You can follow Dinara’s amazing journey by looking for her yellow pin on the main Follow the Flock map or by going to her individual journey page here.
