Arcadia update – Burung Indonesia

On 18th June 2010 the Indonesian Government approved a new license for forest restoration of an additional 50,000 hectares in the Harapan Rainforest in Sumatra, which has been granted to the BirdLife consortium comprising Burung Indonesia, RSPB (BirdLife in the UK) and the BirdLife International Secretariat. ..

Green State of Nature Address

Last Thursday, the Green Con-vergence for Safe Food and Healthy Environment, a loose coalition of networks and NGOs, held its third Green State of Nature Address (SONA). We were very appreciative that DENR Secretary Ramon Paje stayed the entire day to hear out our long complaints, urgent pleas and sturdy arguments particularly on forestry issues and mining.

We have just completed our first Malayan Sun Bear research project, funded by the International Bear Association. The sun bear is the smallest bear in the world and one of the globally threatened mammals found in Harapan Rainforest.

BirdLife International in Indochina has just released its quarterly newsletter, Babbler 35, for July - September 2010, which includes a feature on BirdLife CEPF Regional Implementation Team progress in Indochina. This feature gives an update on an additional one large and one small grant, brief progress of fifteen funded projects and especially the CEPF mid-term assessment workshops held in July in Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam.
