El día 1ro de Junio de 2011, técnicos de Aves y Conservación junto con el Director Ejecutivo de la Fundación Jocotoco y el Administrador de la Reserva de Yanacocha realizaron una salida de campo para observar al Zamarrito Pechinegro. Hacían dos años que no existían registros de este colibrí, amenazado de extinción, en Yanacocha por lo que existía incertidumbre debido a su ausencia.
