As Denmark has taken over the Presidency of the EU, BirdLife Europe, together with DOF/ BirdLife in Denmark, has produced a new issue of its bi-annual publication “Greening Europe”, highlighting BirdLife Europe’s EU policy priorities for the upcoming six months, and providing Denmark with ‘five keys to a successful Presidency’.

Volunteering the Danish Way

Bird conservation in Denmark has a long history and DOF, the Danish BirdLife Partner, is one of the oldest nature conservation societies in Europe. In 2002, inspired by similar examples from the BirdLife Partnership, DOF decided to establish groups of volunteers around each of their 128 IBAs.

Rare Indonesian owl photographed by Danes

One of the world’s most elusive owls has been found – and photographed - in the forest around Mbeliling on Flores in Indonesia, where BirdLife Denmark is involved with a Danida-funded nature conservation project in collaboration with the local communities and the Indonesian BirdLife partner, Burung Indonesia.

White-tailed Eagles poisoned in Denmark

For the first time in almost a century a pair of White-tailed Eagles Haliaeetus albicilla bred in the Danish island of Funen, but tragically the birds were found dead at the end of June.
