EuroBirdwatch07: Fascinating Bird Migration

18-09-2007

Millions of migrating birds will be leaving Europe in the coming weeks, flying south to warmer regions.

BirdLife International invites people in Europe to seize the opportunity to see this magnificent spectacle by taking part in EuroBirdwatch – a yearly event to explore the magic and beauty of these birds in the wild.

This weekend (6/7 October), twenty-nine European BirdLife Partners are offering members of the public the opportunity to observe birds and learn more about nature, and more specifically, about their mysterious migration. In most countries participants of EuroBirdwatch events will find observation posts where they can share knowledge and learn about different bird species.

In past years around 40,000 people have taken part and up to three million birds have been observed in this single weekend.

The Partners of BirdLife International in Europe intend to show the variety and beauty of birds as indicators of the quality of our environment and motivate more people to take care of nature: connecting people with birds!

In 2007, the event is being coordinated by SVS/BirdLife Switzerland, which will act as the European Centre to process EuroBirdwatch data.
