WOW Newsletter available - The third annual newsletter of the Wings Over Wetlands (WOW) UNEP-GEF African-Eurasian Flyways Project has now been produced. The publication gives an overview of the WOW project and the latest achievements of this unique flyway initiative in the African-Eurasian region. The newsletter showcases the important flyway-scale conservation work and materials being developed under the project. To read click here

Monitoring, indicators and targets - The 18th Conference of the European Bird Census Council is taking place in, Cáceres (Extremadura), Spain between 22-26 March 2010. Entitled 'Monitoring, indicators and targets' this Conference will give the opportunity to share experiences and new research findings from bird population monitoring programmes, on the role of birds as bioindicators, their conservation status, and the future targets that need to be met. Is Europe ready for global leadership on biodiversity in 2010? - As with every Presidency of the EU, BirdLife International has also launched its publication Greening Europe, highlighting BirdLife's EU policy priorities for the upcoming six months and providing Spain with 'five keys to a successful Presidency'. Six months from now BirdLife will evaluate the successes and failures of Spain on these top recommendations. Download Greening Europe here.

2010: celebrating Swallows - In this International Year of Biodiversity, MME (BirdLife in Hungary) has decided to celebrate the the three common species of swallow and martins: Barn Swallow Hirundo rustica, Northern House-martin Delichon urbicum and Sand Martin Riparia riparia. MME organises several initiatives to celebrate their Bird of the Year, including swallow-watching tours, ringing demonstrations and lessons on how to build them nests. New site for owlet - Endangered Long-whiskered Owlet Xenoglaux loweryi has been filmed and photographed at a new site in Neotropical Primate Conservation’s main research area, La Esperanza, Peru. First found in 1976, the species had not been seen since 2007.


BirdLife comprises more than 100 conservation organisations working together to promote sustainable living as a means to conserve biodiversity.
