BirdLife makes the news

12-05-2009

Do you want to be the first to hear about the latest conservation stories from around the world, the newest bird species, the greatest conservation achievements, and the most worrying developments?

You’ve come to the right place. BirdLife's website is a great way of keeping in touch with international conservation. Over recent years we were first to release stories of new species like Bugun Liocichla, Gorgeted Puffleg, and the rediscoveries of "lost" species such as Beck’s Petrel and Large-billed Reed-warbler. "With the BirdLife Partnership working in over 100 countries and territories worldwide, we’re at the front line of conservation, so often we're the first to hear about the international stories”, said Ade Long, BirdLife’s Head of Communications.

“We’ve made it easier to tailor news to suit your needs. Now you can keep abreast of the stories you’re most interested in by using our email alerts, RSS feeds, or even by adding our BirdLife News Widget into your website or blog”, noted Ade. “It’s all free and easy to use”.

With the new BirdLife email alerts, you choose what you want to hear about, and how frequently you receive them. “For example, you might want to get a monthly update about seabirds, a weekly email about Americas stories, or simply hear about all our stories as soon as they’re published”, said Ade. “We now have loads of options to suit all your needs”. Choose your tailored email alerts today!

RSS

You can also now choose to get BirdLife news using one of our RSS feeds. “RSS feeds are a fast and convenient way to get BirdLife stories delivered direct to your desktop”, added Ade. “They’re completely free and easy to use”. Select your BirdLife RSS feed.

BirdLife News Widget

We’ve also released the ‘BirdLife News Widget’ which allows you quickly and easily display the latest global conservation stories directly on your blog or website. “It’s all automated – once we publish a story it’s instantly displayed in your BirdLife News Widget”. It’s a great way to attract more people to your site and is very easy to customise. Get your free BirdLife News Widget.

BirdLife Video

It’s not just written stories that we publish. BirdLife has a growing number of videos illustrating our global conservation work. “BirdLife Video really brings the BirdLife Partnership’s work to life and is a great way to hear about our projects and achievements”. By subscribing to our YouTube channel you’ll hear about new videos as we publish them, and you can take a look at our growing list of featured videos which we’ve hand-selected from YouTube's massive collection of clips. We speak your language

BirdLife is a truly international network, and visitors to our site speak a number of languages. To help spread our word, we’ve recently added Google’s Automated Translation tool to www.birdlife.org. “You can now view over 20,000 webpages at www.birdlife.org in 27 different languages”, added Ade. “The translations aren’t perfect – and you can read the original content by hovering your mouse over the text – but we hope it will help many more people enjoy our website. Do you know somebody who might find this useful? Take a look at the translations.

Whatever you’re interest in, and however you want your news, recent developments at www.birdlife.org will help you to more easily keep up to date with a world of conservation stories which are just round the corner.
