Toy birds fly off the shelves

11-07-2005

Half a million soft toy birds have been sold in the UK since their launch in 2002, raising over £70,000 for bird conservation.

The RSPB (BirdLife in the UK) launched a range of 12 soft toy birds back in 2002. The toys, which included garden favourites such as the Blue Tit, Robin and Blackbird, have proved so popular that a further 18 have since been added to the range.

Aimed at stimulating interest in birds, the toys, which are made to the highest safety standards, emit an authentic recording of the bird’s song at the press of a button.

Doug Christie, Licensing manager for the RSPB, said, "These toys manage to bring birds to life as a cuddly and singing soft toy. They are ideal for the young – and young at heart – and an excellent way of learning the birds’ colouring and the songs and calls they make."

The toys are available from RSPB retail outlets on their reserves, Wyevale garden centres, Rainforest Cafe, Harrods, plus a range of toy stores and gift shops across the UK.
