Hawaiian bycatch measures

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) has issued an emergency interim rule designed to reduce seabird and sea-turtle bycatch near Hawaii by Hawaiian longline fishing vessels. The six month ruling prohibits swordfish fishing activities north of Hawaii and all fishing south of Hawaii and additionally imposes strict rules on the handling and resuscitation of sea-turtles.
