Great Bittern wins SEO/BirdLife’s photo competition
This astonishing picture of a Great Bittern Botaurus stellaris, taken by Eduardo Ayala, has won the first prize in the photo competition organized every year by SEO/BirdLife (BirdLife in Spain). More than 263 photographers from 13 countries participated to the contest, sending over 1000 images.
As part of the “Wings over Water” campaign, this year’s photo competition focused on wetlands’ peculiar nature and birds.
The winning picture shows one of the 25 recorded male Bitterns, that live in Spain, just before starting its typical song, that can be heard from several kilometers.
Two other photographers have been awarded in the categories “Spanish wetlands landscapes” and “Wetlands Birds of the World”.
The 30 best images will be part of a travelling exhibition which will go to different wetlands areas in País Vasco, Spain, until April 2010.
A wonderful calendar with the first 12 images is for sale, and the revenues will contribute to the Wings over Water Campaign.
