LIPU (BirdLife in Italy), with the support of Norda, an Italian water company, has just launched a new website dedicated to families who love nature and want to discover its wonders. This easy-to-search website gives very useful information on how and where to organise excursions, observe animals, relax in nature or have a picnic.

“Very often italian families decide not to visit any nature reserves as they fear they will not find any support infrastructures for children or disabled people. On this website they will be able to plan their trips according to their needs”, explained Elena D’Andrea, LIPU’s Director General. A special section also presents a detailed agenda of ongoing markets and town festivals in various Italian regions. And what if it rains? With a pair of “virtual binoculars”, children can play several games where they can find more information about the species they have just spotted and learn how to behave in nature, at the same time surfing on a safe website.

Teachers also have a special section where they can download educational materials and information which can be used in schools. “This very innovative tool developed by our education department is essential to incline people towards biodiversity and birds, as they can learn how to love them. Increasing people’s respect and knowledge is the most efficient way to protect our nature and assure they can live side by side”, concluded enthusiastically Elena D’Andrea.
