BirdLife Cyprus is looking to recruit a:

Project Scientific Officer (full time38 hrs week)

Type of contract: Temporary 18 months, with possibility of extending to 24 months

Overall purpose of the job:

To work on a number of related projects under tenders that BirdLife Cyprus has won, including development of a Farmland Bird Index through expansion of the Cyprus Common Birds Census, data collection, collation and analysis for a Breeding Birds Atlas of Cyprus and for Cyprus’s reporting under Article 12 of the European Union Birds Directive. These projects focus on: 

•collecting and analysing Common Bird Census and complementary data on populations, trends and distributions of regularly occurring Cyprus birds, 

•coordinating and participating in field work,

•incorporating and managing the data gathered in appropriate database format, 

•using the data to produce a Farmland Bird Index,

•analysing the data for Cyprus for species on Article 12 of the EU Birds Directive, to determine which information is missing,

•preparing reports according to relevant contractual requirements.  

 

The successful candidate:

Will have a postgraduate degree in Biology, Zoology, Ecology, Ornithology, Conservation or related competence or relevant work experience. They will have solid experience in field work techniques, and in collating, verifying and analyzing data sets, especially monitoring and atlas data. They will be an excellent user of English language, able to work independently with little supervision and keen to work for a nature conservation NGO.

Salary indication: 19.000-23.000 EUR gross (for 38hrs/week) depending on qualifications and experience
