The BirdLife Europe Secretariat is inviting interested individuals to submit their expression of interest for a 6 month internship between the period March 2012 and September 2012. The individual will undertake an internship focused on EU Biodiversity Policy. This placement will be based at the BirdLife Europe office in Brussels, Belgium.

Purpose of the Internship: To support the EU Policy team in its work and to participate to the development of an advocacy report in the area of EU Biodiversity Policy.

The intern will mainly work on coordination support and co-drafting and review of an advocacy publication/report assessing EU progress towards reaching the targets of the EU 2020 Biodiversity Strategy.

The intern will in addition provide support and participate in the following activities and on topics related to the work areas of the Policy team (see here):

· background research and analysis to inform policy positions and briefings

· campaigning and advocacy events

· internal meetings with other NGOs and with BirdLife Partners

· attendance to selected external events and conferences

Specific Requirements

· The applicant should at least have a Bachelor’s Degree in political or social sciences or any other relevant Bachelor’s Degree in environmental sciences.

· The applicant should have very good oral and written communication skills in English – (the intern will need to be in regular contact with our EU partner organisations in all 27 EU Member States and will have to participate significantly to the review of text for the abovementioned report)

· The applicant should have good knowledge of EU decision making (processes, institutions and legislation)

· The applicant should show knowledge and strong interest in EU Biodiversity Policy
