Flyways Officer, Middle East

• Location: Amman, Jordan
• Full time: 40 hours per week
• Contract: One year fixed term contract (with the potential to extend, subject to funding availability)
 
BirdLife International is the world’s largest nature conservation partnership. Through our unique local-to-global approach, we deliver high impact and long-term conservation for the benefit of nature and people.
 
We are looking for the long term services (engagement) of someone to act as the regional focal point for the Flyways programme, operating as the central hub for all flyway and migratory bird related issues in the region. 
 
This person will ensure that the regional flyway activities are well aligned, keep partners informed and engaged and will contribute to the implementation of existing flyways projects, for example Migratory Soaring Birds, Birdfair and Safe Flyway – Illegal Killing of Birds. The role will involve coordinating the implementation of the BirdLife African Eurasian Flyway Strategy
 
The ideal candidate will have 
• An advanced degree, or proven equivalent experience, in any discipline related to natural sciences. 
• A proven track record of experience related to the conservation of habitats and/or their biological diversity. 
• Proven knowledge of the environmental sector within the Middle East or North and Eastern Africa. 
• Experience in communicating complex conservation projects to diverse audiences of stakeholders and the general public. 
• Excellent communication and planning skills.
• Written and spoken fluency in both Arabic and English.
