The Polynesian Ground-dove was once reduced to a single functional population.

Because of interventions by BirdLife, SOP Manu and Island Conservation, predators were removed and 1,000 hectares of habitat was restored.

Now there are three flourishing populations on the restored island habitats, in some cases re-establishing their permanent presence for the first time in hundreds of years.
