Member State Tasks
  • Recommendation on Natura 2000 designationComplete designation of the network. This should be based on the areas initially proposed by experts, before the political negotiations (political / economic pressures). 100% initial areas proposed by experts must be designated
  • Recommendation on Natura 2000 management:
    • Development of mandatory measures, control and fines.
    • The application of the management prescriptions of the Docob need to be legally binding if they are to be effective
    • Development of other tools to deal with national issues such as water/agriculture, and infrastructure (roads, urbanisation etc)
    • Evaluation of effectiveness of conservation measures must be put in place
    • Development of a real biological survey, with periodic evaluation of each site at a local level (not at national level)
  • Recommendation on Natura 2000 financing: 
    • Return to adequate funding for site management at local operators level.
    • Ensure that future ERDF funding provides a broad opportunity to include biodiversity and Nature 2000 measures, and does not exclusively focus on issues like climate, but includes also biodiversity.
    • Adequate budgets to implement Docob. ERDF criteria adequate for biodiversity.
