Comparison of costs and benefits of investing in nature conservation in Poland and available EU funding for Natura 2000
- The terrestrial Natura 2000 network covers 19.4 % of the total area of Poland.
- The estimated benefits of only the provisioning services, such as honey, game, mushrooms and wild berries in the Natura 2000 Site Bialowieza Forest are around EUR 700,000/year.
- In the period 1990-2007 Poland had a GDP growth of over 75 %. Greenhouse gas emissions remained at a stable level of approximately 30 % below the 1988 emission levels, in
due part to the introduction of many instruments, including legal instruments, promoting low-emission and energy-saving solutions.
