Report 2012

Progress on management of Natura 2000
This progress assessment is based on Birdlife Partners’ expert assessment of progress in their Member State with regard to the management and protection of Natura 2000 sites on land. However, as no scientific methodology has been applied, the assessment remains subjective. The assessment does not refer to the management of marine Natura 2000 sites. The assessment takes into account the management of both Special Protection Areas (under the Birds Directive) and Sites of Community Importance (under the Habitats Directive).

Key to the rating:

Adult: a full and consistent approach to management of all Natura 2000 sites is (close to) established at national or regional level.

Chick: a first important share of management plans for Natura 2000 sites has been developed and approved/endorsed OR other management instruments (other than management plans) are in place within Natura 2000

Egg: no or few management plans approved (yet) OR some plans developed but important drivers of damage not tackled

Trends:

  • : improvement is underway
  • : What has been set-up is not complied with or even weakened
