Natura 2000 Network

Designation  – up

BirdLife Luxembourg identified additional IBAs in 2010 which were communicated to national and European authorities for a further designation of SPAs in order to fill important gaps for species such as Hazel grouse and especially farmland birds within the national Natura 2000 network.

European authorities urged the national authorities to proceed in the designation of the new SPAs. Designation for SCIs is completed

Conservation Management plans have been developed for 30% of Natura 2000 sites. The implementation of the plans is difficult. The main obstacle is funding and active follow-up by the Ministry
Financing

Most funding for the Natura 2000 network comes from the budget of the Environment Ministry.

Very little rural development funding is channelled to nature protection or management and Natura2000 seems to be no topic of the rural development plan.

This source of funding is targeted almost entirely to development of agriculture.
