BirdLife Works for Development

BirdLife International recognises that some of the world's poorest people are also the most dependent on their natural resources. These people often live in highly degraded and vulnerable environments that have been undermined or destroyed by deforestation, over fishing or inappropriate intensive agriculture.

Using our unique global network we are working with Governments, local communities and our local NGO's partners at the policy and at the grassroots level to address some of these issues. Our work is based on sound scientific principals and requests from local communities. BirdLife International supports NGO's partners by capacity building and supporting global and regional co-ordination of conservation and sustainable development.

The International Development Agencies are crucially important to the success of our work, providing guidance and funding. GEF, DANIDA, DFID are just some of the agencies who are currently supporting our global programmes. Although we have an excellent reputation in the scientific and development fields we do not have a high public profile which makes securing funding for our work more difficult.

If you are interested in learning more about our programmes or how you can actively support us please contact Caroline Pridham, BirdLife Programmes Development Manager, telephone +44 (0)1223 279810, or email birdlife@birdlife.org.
