Taxonomic note

Oenanthe bottae and O. heuglini (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) are given specific status contra Dowsett and Forbes-Watson (1993). The Sahel-to-Kenya form heuglini is a species separate from Horn-of-African and SW Arabian bottae on account of:  much smaller size (3); white chin and submoustachial merging into fulvous-buff upper breast vs white chin, submoustachial and throat sharply divided from fulvous-buff upper breast (2); parapatric distribution (2).
