Taxonomic note
Procelsterna cerulea and P. albivitta (del Hoyo and Collar 2014) were previously lumped as P. cerulea following Sibley and Monroe (1990, 1993).

Distribution and population
The Blue Noddy is found in the central and western Pacific Ocean, in American Samoa, the Cook Islands, Fiji, French Polynesia, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, New Caledonia (to France), Samoa, Tonga (Niua), Tuvalu and the Hawaiian Islands (USA) (del Hoyo et al. 1996).

Ecology
This species takes very small fish (average length 17 mm), squid, crustaceans and pelagic sea striders with proportions varying seasonally and geographically. It feeds on the wing by dipping or pattering. Breeding can be continual in places (e.g. Hawaii) and occurs in loose colonies on cliffs or rocky areas (del Hoyo et al. 1996).
