Population justification: A combined population estimate of 150,000-1,100,000 individuals was given for A. p. poecilorhyncha and A. p. haringtoni by Miyabayashi and Mundkhur (1999), prior to the recent taxonomic change.
Trend justification: The population is suspected to be decreasing at an unquantified rate, but the decline is not believed to be sufficiently rapid to approach the thresholds for Vulnerable under the population trend criterion.
