Justification
This poorly known and apparently highly localised species is thought to have a moderately small population and range which may be declining owing to habitat loss; it therefore is classified as Near Threatened. If it was found to be more widespread than currently known it may be downlisted.

Taxonomic note
Archboldia papuensis and A. sanfordi (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) have been lumped into A. papuensis following Frith et al. (1995).
