Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified, but the species is described as locally scarce over much of its range, rare and little known in China and locally common in Thailand, Laos and Vietnam (Madge and McGowan 2002).
Trend justification: The population is suspected to be in decline owing to ongoing habitat destruction and unsustainable levels of hunting.
