Ornithological information See table for key species. A diverse assemblage of Afrotropical breeding species, including Scopus umbretta, Ciconia abdimii, Milvus migrans, Melierax metabates, Accipiter badius, Buteo rufinus, Aquila rapax, Aquila verreauxii, Hieraaetus fasciatus, Falco tinnunculus, F. pelegrinoides (min. 2 pairs), Coturnix delegorguei, Pterocles lichtensteinii, P. exustus, Streptopelia semitorquata, Oxylophus jacobinus, Centropus superciliosus, Apus affinis, Cypsiurus parvus, Halcyon leucocephala, Coracias abyssinica, Tockus nasutus, Mirafra cantillans, Eremopterix nigriceps, Cercotrichas podobe, Cercomela melanura, Cisticola juncidis, Terpsiphone viridis, Anthreptes metallicus, Nectarinia habessinica, Zosterops abyssinicus, Tchagra senegala, Ploceus galbula, Petronia dentata, Lonchura cantans and Emberiza tahapisi. Open fields of the Tihamah plain support large numbers of migrants in autumn, including Circus aeruginosus, C. macrourus, C. pygargus, Calandrella brachydactyla, Anthus campestris, Motacilla flava and Oenanthe isabellina. There is a major passage of raptors in autumn along the foothills, mainly of Buteo buteo (470, October) and Aquila nipalensis (2,025, October), but also with Circaetus gallicus (10, October), Accipiter nisus, Aquila clanga (2, October), Hieraaetus pennatus (4, October), Falco subbuteo (30, November), and small numbers of Ciconia nigra (1, October) and C. ciconia (23, November) -- all are attracted to rest and feed at irrigated farmland -- plus associated Tachymarptis melba (100, October) and A. affinis (200, October).
Site description Rocky foothills of the Red Sea escarpment at the point where the major watercourse of Wadi Surdud flows onto the plain of the western Tihamah, north of Bajil.

Other biodiversity Mammals: Papio hamadryas (endemic). Amphibians: Bufo tihamicus (endemic), Euphlyctis ehrenbergii (endemic).
Management considerations Depletion of the water-table and destruction of Dobera parkland by expansion of intensive/irrigated agriculture may threaten Ardeotis arabs and is leading to a loss of nesting habitat for Terathopius ecaudatus.
