Site description An extensive upland plain c.25 km north of Lake Van (site 096) and just north of Süphan mountain. It comprises wet meadows, upland grassland and a series of freshwater lakes and large reedbeds (Phragmites). Non-irrigated arable land and pasture surround the area, and cattle and water buffalo graze the wetland. Reed-cutting is an important economic activity (`Other' land-use).
