Ornithological information See Box and Table 2 for key species. This is the only site in Sudan from which Columba albinucha is known.

Site description Bengangai is a small forested Game Reserve on the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo, west of the town of Yambio. The site is bounded to the west by the Biki river and to the east by the Ogo river, to the south by the border with DR Congo and to the north by the road linking Yambio with the international frontier of the Central African Republic, immediately to the north-west. The vegetation of the site is principally Guinea–Congolian forest.

Other biodiversity The following mammals of global conservation concern occur, or used to do so: Pan troglodytes (EN), Loxodonta africana (EN), Cephalophus sylvicultor (LR/nt), C. rufilatus (LR/cd), Tragelaphus euryceros (LR/nt), Syncerus caffer (LR/cd) and Kobus ellipsiprymnus (LR/cd).

Management considerations The reserve was set up in 1939 principally to protect its population of Tragelaphus euryceros.
