Site description The site comprises predominantly deciduous forests between the Ruja and Seda rivers on the NE coast of lake Burtnieks and two patches of open fields and meadows on both flanks. A new site formed by the reduction of the former lake Burtnieks IBA, listed since 2000 [3, 1]. High protection level: there is a 95.6% overlap with Vidusburtnieks restricted nature reserve, a candidate SPA.
