Sites - Important Bird Areas (IBAs)

Summary Two mountain chains in the Jura range, separated by an open valley which contains wet meadows, bogs and a small lake. An important site for breeding subalpine species, particulary Ring Ouzel and Citril Finch. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Corncrake. The forest tree community is changing as a result of the decline of forest grazing. This has resulted in increased grazing pressure on meadows.

Ornithological information Das IBA «Mont Tendre» beherbergt eine typische Avifauna der montanen Stufe der Schweiz. Ringdrossel und Zitronengirlitz brüten in grosser Dichte in den aufgelockerten Waldbeständen des subalpinen Tannenwaldes. Von den mehr als 95 Brutvogelarten sind besonders Auerhuhn, Haselhuhn, Waldschnepfe, Dreizehenspecht, Raufusskauz und Sperlingskauz zu nennen. Für das Auerhuhn zählt diese Region zu den wichtigsten Gebieten der Schweiz; das waadtländische Amt für Sicherheit und Umwelt führt ein Schutzprogramm für diese Art durch. Im Talboden der Vallée de Joux rufen gelegentlich Wachtelkönige; allerdings erfüllt die Art hier die IBA-Kriterien nicht.

Site description Das IBA reicht vom bewaldeten Südhang der ersten Jurakette mit dem Mont Tendre (1679 m ü. M.) bis zur französischen Grenze. Es umfasst ebenfalls das Vallée de Joux und den Grand Risoux. Das IBA liegt vorwiegend in der Zone des Buchen-Tannenwaldes. Aufgrund des Weidedrucks und der Waldnutzung dominiert aber vorwiegend die Fichte Picea abies diese Wälder. Durch Waldweide ist der Bestand vielerorts ziemlich licht und gut durchsonnt. Im Vallée de Joux befinden sich auf wasserundurchlässigen Böden und entlang des Ufers des lac de Joux und bei Le Chenit Feuchtwiesen, Auenwälder sowie Hoch- und Flachmoore. Das IBA «Mont Tendre» grenzt im Norden an das französische IBA FR095 «Forêts d’altitude du Jura: Forêt du Risol et Mont d’Or» und im Nordwesten an das IBA FR096 «Forêts d’altitude du Jura: Forêt du Risoux».

Management considerations Vermehrte Aufgabe der Waldweide führt zu sich ändernden Waldgesellschaften. Gleichzeitig nimmt der Weidedruck auf offenen Flächen zu, was sich besonders nachteilig auf die bis anhin extensiv genutzten Wiesen im Vallée de Joux auswirkt. Die Region des Mont Tendre ist sehr gut erschlossen, woraus besonders für die ruhebedürftigen Raufusshühner grosse Störungen resultieren.

Heute deckt dieser über 100 km2 ab und es laufen Bestrebungen, das NHG-Label Regionaler Naturpark zu erlangen. Ein Konzept zur Besucherlenkung mit einer Unterteilung des Gebietes in Zonen wurde bereits erarbeitet.
