Ornithological information The site is important for breeding riverine species.
Site description The course of the Pielach, a tributary of the Danube, is in a near-natural state. Forest dominated by Alnus, Fraxinus, Acer and Salix is associated with the river. Adjacent areas are dominated by arable cultivation with two patches of Quercus woodland.

Management considerations The riverine forest is threatened with conversion to plantations and the river itself by canalization and shingle mining. The areas of the river that are important for birds are also heavily used for recreation.
Protection status National None International High4,000 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Nieder-österreichische Alpenvorlandflusse, 16,484 ha).
