Ornithological information An important site for birds associated with arable agriculture. It is one of five areas in Austria for Otis tarda.
Site description The area is a large, flat, shingle terrace with a thin loess deposit, situated to the north-east of Lake Neusiedl. It is predominantly agricultural with some forestry plantations, interspersed with numerous gravel-pits. Remnants of extensively grazed pastures and the original oak Quercus forests exist.

Management considerations Hunting is permitted across the entire area. The creation of set-aside is being promoted in areas used by Otis tarda.
Protection status National Low International None70 ha of IBA covered by Nature Reserve (Zurndorfer Eichenwald, 70 ha).
