Site description A very large forest area with glades, lakes and some small bogs. Formerly very extensive wetlands occurred within the forest, covering 70% of the site 150 years ago, but most have been drained and only small areas remain.

Key Biodiversity Several species listed on Annex I of the EC Birds Directive breed at the site, including Pernis apivorus, Accipiter gentilis, Caprimulgus europaeus, Dryocopus martius and Lanius collurio.
