Management considerations The Grande Brière is insufficiently flooded during summer (due to changes to the Loire estuary, see site 023) and the resulting high salinity is having a serious effect on the vegetation at the site. There is also considerable hunting pressure. Drainage and infilling of the surrounding areas are also reported threats.
Protection status National Low International High1,075 ha of IBA covered by Hunting Reserve (1,075 ha). 18,900 ha of IBA covered by Ramsar Site (Grande-Brière, 19,000 ha).
