Site description Os rios Negro e Aquidauana representam as principais drenagens dentro dessa IBA, situada nas sub-regiões pantaneiras denominadas Nhecolândia, Abobral, Miranda e Aquidauana. A vegetação compõese de um mosaico de diferentes formações de savanas, incluindo a savana arborizada, a florestada e, principalmente, a gramíneolenhosa. De acordo com estudos realizados na RPPN Dona Aracy, as espécies de gramíneas mais representativas nos campos limpos incluem Axonopus purpusii, Mesosetum spp., Paspalum spp. e Panicum spp.. Já nos campos sujos destacamse os caronais, comunidades vegetais dominadas pela gramínea Elyonurus muticus. Na paisagem há também áreas alteradas, sobretudo pastagens exóticas, e fisionomias vegetais pioneiras influenciadas pelo regime das cheias, onde pode ser encontrada Tabebuia heptaphylla. Os índices pluviométricos regionais atingem cerca de 1.100 mm anuais, com chuvas concentradas entre outubro e março.
