Site description El IBA incluye casi 9,100 ha en un corredor altitudinal de 100 msnm hasta 2100 msnm. Laguna El Jocotal es un sitio Ramsar (es un humedal de agua dulce con 1500 ha de extensión, incluyendo el espejo de agua, pantanos y bosque inundable alrededor), con abundancia de aves acuáticas (como "Pinnated Bittern" Botaurus pinnatus) y de planicie costera (como "Yellow-naped Parrot" Amazona auropalliata).
