Summary La Estancia Ka’agüy Rory alberga uno de los remanentes boscosos más importantes para la protección del Bosque Atlántico en Paraguay bajo dominio privado. El 63% de su cobertura conserva Bosque Atlántico, mientras que en el resto de la propiedad, asociados a los valles del arroyo Morotĩ, afluente del río Aguaray, se desarrollan pastizales inundables. El área cuenta con árboles muy antiguos y añosos, encontrándose ejemplares de gran porte.
Ornithological information Este sitio presenta una avifauna típica del bosque atlántico, con un alto nivel de endemismo, entre ellas el yacutinga Pipile jacutinga, el pájaro campana Procnias nudicollis, las 5 especies de tucanes del país entre los que se destaca el arasarí banana Baillonius bailloni, se encuentran 11 especies de pájaros carpinteros, entre ellos el emblemático carpintero cara canela Dryocopus galeatus, el más grande y fuerte: el carpintero grande Campephilus robustus, y carpintero copete amarillo Celeus flavescens, además se encuentra el marakana yeruvá Baryphthengus ruficapillus. Es uno de los pocos sitios en donde se ha registrado el tesorito Phibalura flavirostris, entre las aves nocturnas destaca el urutaú coludo Nyctibius aethereus, y entre los loros el papagayo rojo Ara chloropterus.
Site description Alberga uno de los remanentes boscosos más importantes para la protección del Bosque Atlántico en Paraguay bajo dominio privado. Al Sureste de la propiedad, el paisaje dominante es el de los pastizales sobre suelos saturados, de entre 1 y 2 m de altura, asociados a los valles del arroyo Morotĩ.

Other biodiversity El área se ve favorecida por la cercanía de grandes áreas naturales como Mbaracayú y Morombi. Su mastofauna es relativamente abundante con especies amenazadas como akuti po’i Dasyprocta azarae, jaguarete Panthera onca, mborevi (Tapirus terrestri, jurumi Myrmecophaga tridactyla y aguara guasu Chrysocyon brachyurus. Destaca también en su abundancia de tañyka ti T. pecari, kure’i P. tajacu, akutipak Agouti paca, tatu hu D. novemcinctus, venados Mazama spp. y koati N. nasua.
Management considerations Una de las principales amenazas del lugar es la extracción ilegal de madera. Cacería. Aislamiento de otros remanentes boscosos. Rodeado de asentamientos campesinos bajo constante amenazas de invasión. La falta de incentivos a la conservación privada también es un problema.
Protection status Sin Protección oficial. No obstante, los propietarios realizan un manejo empírico de uso sustentable forestal desde hace más de 70 años con notable éxito.
