Site description El territorio estaba originalmente cubierta de bosques húmedos, cobertura que actualmente se ha reducido por efecto de la intervención humana y de los daños causados por el Huracán Juana de 1988. Por la exposición de la zona a huracanes, los bosques de la Reserva se encuentran en un estado sucesional muy dinámico, y que además los vuelve susceptibles a sufrir daños irreversibles por efecto de la actividad del hombre.
